SILENT KILLER, REXTAN AGAINST LABOUR ABUSE . . . commemorate Workers’ Day

- Edwin Nhukarume

SILENT Killer and Rextan have released a track titled

Museyamwa aimed at highlighting the plight of most workers in the informal sector.

The track tackles the abuse the majority of workers have been enduring over the years.

Rextan said the song was meant to commemorate Workers’ Day, in a different style, by airing their grievances in a humorous way.

Workers Day, which falls on May 1 each year, was celebrated yesterday.

“Since I realised we were approaching Workers’ Day, I saw it necessary to do something for the workers, who are facing different challenges, at their work places,” he said.

“As you know, our lives revolve around our jobs and we spend more of our hours at work than with our friends and family.

“I thought of collaborating with Silent Killer, one of the voices that penetrates the streets, to sing about problems being

faced by workers.

“The song is simply about workers in the informal sector going unpaid for months.

“Workers deserve to be respected as they set aside time to be productive rather than doing criminal activities in the society,” he said.

Rextan said music should be seen as a mirror of society.

“Music plays a major role in the way we live.

“It touches the souls of many people, it can be a strong instrument to give direction to our society. This is the reason why I love singing about societal issues,” he told H-Metro.

Rextan is one of the emerging dancehall and Afro pop artists in the country.

He has an EP titled Love Languages, which has themes of domestic violence, lockdown, love and heartbreak.
