Crooner relishes Swedish tour

- Mary Mutamiri

AFRO fusion crooner, Darlington “Hombarume” Mbirimi, is on cloud nine after being chosen to participate in the International Folk Music Camp in Sweden.

Aptly named “ETHNO”, the competition runs from June 30 to July 8 in Rattvik.

In an interview with H-Metro, Hombarume said the invitation remains one of his greatest achievements.

“When I applied for the ETHNO camp I didn’t expect that I would be invited to participate.

“I am so excited and happy, it’s actually a dream come true.

“It has always been my wish to represent my country’s culture and also teach other countries about my culture,” he said.

Hombarume said his music was inspired by the circumstances that people encounter in their lives.

“My music is actually inspired by our everyday lives, the need to address social ills, drug abuse and child abuse.

“All the circumstances that I encounter on a daily basis, I consider them and they become the basis of my music,” said Hombarume.

He added: “Our culture is being eroded, some artists tend to forget where we come from and adopt western cultures.

“Our culture defines who we are and I think it’s every artist’s duty to remind people about our own culture through music.”

Hombarume disclosed he still faces financial problems.

“Right now I am facing financial challenges to organise all that is needed for me to fly to Sweden.

“A lot of money is needed yet I don’t have enough money to cater for all the expenses.

“I would like to open room for those who can help, I will be glad if I am helped with money for flights to and from Sweden.

“For this dream of mine to come true, I will be looking forward to my country to support me because support means everything to me.”

Hombarume started his music career in 2021 and has recorded eight single tracks.
