Fraudster remanded in custody
SUSPECTED fraudster Sybeth Musengezi, who is accused of using a fake address when he registered to be a Zanu Pf Pf member, was yesterday remanded in custody.
He will be back in court today for continuation of bail application.
Musengezi was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda.
The court heard that sometime in 2012, Musengezi, acting in connivance with Allen Chisuko and Taurai Mutimbanyoka, misrepresented to Zanu Pf PF that he resided at House Number 4315 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare.
He wanted to become a member of Zanu Pf PF Muzinda 1A District.
As a result of this misrepresentation, Musengezi fraudulently became a member of the ruling party’s Muzinda 1A District.
It is the State’s case that in 2019, Musengezi again connived with Mutimbanyoka, and misrepresented that he was within the cells of Zanu Pf PF Mai Chitepo Branch Muzinda 1 District.
He claimed he stayed at House Number 4461 Hatcliffe Extension, Harare.
The reality, though, was that Musengezi did not stay at that address.
As a result of the misrepresentation, he became eligible for election to a Zanu Pf PF Branch position or post.
Musengezi was then elected as the Zanu Pf PF, Mai Chitepo Branch’s Muzinda District Youth Wing vice chairperson.
The State alleges Musengezi’s misrepresentations prejudiced Zanu Pf PF of its reputation and he enjoyed benefits that were not entitled to him as he was not a member of the party.
The State, represented by Anesu Chirenje, opposed bail.
Bail application continues today.
