PRIDE OF GLEN NORAH

- Bruce Chikuni

GLEN NORAH Ambassadors FC say they are the spiritual home to every former footballer whose roots are in the high-density suburb.

They pride themselves for putting their suburb on the domestic football map.

Hussein Amidu, Tinashe Nengomasha, Takesure Chiragwi, Edwin Farai, Oscar Motsi and George Nechironga are some of the team’s players.

They use the Warriors jersey as one of their kits.

They claim the uniqueness of their style of play makes them qualify to use the national team colours.

The team is run by a board of directors consisting of Wilson Chari, Keith Musimbo, Mudavanhu Magaya and Graham Mutendereki.

One of the team’s founding members, Seremani Bakari, said they use the club to instil hope into the youths, particularly in Glen Norah.

Most of the team’s players are in their late 40s and 50s.

“There’s so much talent in the high-density suburbs and we are using our team to remind youngsters that they can achieve what was achieved by the big names,” said Bakari.

“We organise our matches on WhatsApp groups.

“We don’t only play our games in Harare, but also travel to other places nationwide.”

Bakari said they were in the process of joining forces with other local businessmen to establish a team from Glen Norah which will play in the top-flight league.

The suburb is also home to two other prominent social football clubs - Americans and Africans.

The Americans are the sons of Glen Norah who moved to the leafy suburbs of the capital.

The Africans are those who are still in the high density suburb.
