Zimpapers Annual Cancer Powerwalk routes released

THE countdown to the annual Zimpapers Cancer Powerwalk to be held in six cities on Saturday has begun.

All roads lead to Old Hararians Sports Club in the capital for the seventh edition of the campaign, which will concurrent­ly take place in Bulawayo, Gweru, Kariba, Mutare and Masvingo.

The walk begins at 5.30am and participan­ts are required to pay US$10 or $6 500 for registrati­on.

Each person will get a branded T-shirt at registrati­on.

The route of the 5km walk is along Bishop Gaul Avenue into Princes Road before turning left into Prince Edward.

From Prince Edward, participan­ts will turn left into Lawson Avenue and walk straight back to Bishop Gaul into Old Hararians Sports Club.

Those taking part in the 10km run will start from Old Hararians into Bishop Gaul Avenue, before turning

left into Princes Road, straight down into Josiah Tongogara, and left into Sam Nujoma Street before turning left into Cork Road.

They will turn into Prince Edward Road and right into Drummond Chaplin Street before connecting back to Bishop Gaul into Old Hararians.

In Bulawayo, the walk will start at Chronicle House at 6am.

There will be a marked route from Chronicle House into 9th Avenue from which participan­ts will turn left into Samuel Parirenyat­wa Street and right into Leopold Takawira Avenue.

They will turn right into Ascot Road and left into 12th Avenue up to George Silundika Street and back to Chronicle House.

In Gweru, the walk starts at OK

Mart with participan­ts taking a right turn into Mvuma Road before turning into Josiah Chinamano.

Participan­ts will then turn left into Bradley Road straight into Health Row before turning left into Acacia Road.

They will take another left turn into Windsor Road to the first roundabout up to the C.P.H roundabout.

The route stretches straight down to a right turn to the Showground roundabout where a right turn will lead back to the finishing line at OK Mart.

In Kariba, both the 5km walk and 10km run start at Nyamhunga Primary at 6.30am.

Those walking will go straight through Harare Road to the Batonga turn-off and back to Nyamhunga Primary School.

The 10km runners will proceed to the Cutty Sark turn-off and back to Nyamhunga Primary School.

The walk starts at Mutare Motoring Club with marked routes clearly leading to 11th Avenue.

A left turn leads into Herbert Chitepo before another left turn takes participan­ts back to the motoring club.

Zimpapers Public Relations and Corporate Affairs Manager, Pauline Matanda, appealed to people to register for this noble cause of fighting against cancer.
