Musician survives freak accident

- Latwell Nyangu

RISING Sungura musician, Mathew “Strategy Machine” Perego, is happy to be alive after surviving a freak car accident.

The singer, who leads the Strategic Band, says he was not injured but his car was damaged.

“I was hit by a motorcycle in Kamfinsa after a motorcyclist entered the red robot.

“He misjudged the robot and hit me since it was my turn to move.

“It's my first car. He hit my car on the corner lamp and the windscreen was also damaged.

“No one was injured.

“It's just two months since I bought it,” he said.

The singer is riding high with his debut album, 'Dhiri Rakanaka.'

Perego is excited with the project which carries five tracks.

“The first song is Maudio, which is a love song, and there is also Dhiri, Mwari Muchengeti, Dhiya and Warwadziwa Nei.

“I also do some adverts for Terms Logistics bus company.

"Recently, I had a show at Towers which was fully packed.

“I will be back at the venue by public demand.”

His journey started when he was advised by Alick Macheso to be his own man.

“I approached Macheso looking for a job, since I was jobless, and things were down for me.

“I was genuinely in need of a job, but Macheso told me that I was good but he felt it would be in my best interest if I started my own thing.

“That's when I began this journey and the response is overwhelming and my fans are enjoying."

Perego was part of Romeo Gasa's team in the past.

“I was with Gasa and from there I went to South Africa where I started working with Wilson Chitete.

“I then came back home and joined Peter Moyo, playing the lead guitar, where I mastered and discovered my weaknesses.

“Then, this year in March, I started my own thing and I am hoping for the best.”
