Man gets 12 years for murder
A 36-YEAR-OLD man was jailed 12 years for killing a fellow reveller following a misunderstanding.
Shepherd Karimamombe was found guilty of murder when he appeared before Chinhoyi High Court Judge, Justice Filda Muzofa.
District public prosecutor, Herald Matura, told the court that on August 29, 2020, at around 7pm, Archiborld Murumbi, (28) of Manyoka Village, under Chief Chundu, was drinking beer at Tarisai Manyoporo’s homestead.
He was in the company of Luxmore Zintambila, Peter Mudereki and Innocent Masocha.
Karimamombe and his co-accused Life Jeffrey, who is on the run, joined them.
An altercation ensued between Jeffrey and Murumbi, and they were restrained by Zintambila.
The court heard that Murumbi left and went to his homestead on the advice of Mudereki.
This incensed Karimamombe and Jeffrey, who teamed up and followed Murumbi.
They caught up with him at a secluded place.
Karimamombe and Jeffrey struck Murumbi with a hoe handle on the head, causing a deep gash.
The two also used a brick to assault Murumbi.
The commotion attracted the attention of Isaac Makainganwa, who rushed to the scene and found Murumbi lying unconscious.
He saw Karimamombe and Jeffrey leaving the scene and alerted other villagers, who arranged transport, to ferry Murumbi to a clinic.
He was later transferred from Nyamakate Clinic to Karoi District Hospital.
Murumbi died in hospital the following day.
A post-mortem concluded that the cause of death was severe head injuries.
