Have Peter Moyo’s top troops quit?

-

UTAKATAKA Express’ vital cogs, Spencer “Bolt Cutter” Khumulani and Gift “Shiga Shiga” Katulika, are fortune hunters.

The pair, who served both the late Tongai Moyo and his son Peter, is on the verge of joining upcoming sungura artiste, Joy Commander.

Born Casper Mudzengerere, 40 years ago, the singer, who doubles as an electric engineer, has also roped in former Alick Macheso and System Tazvida band member, Lucky Mumiriki, into his structures.

He is set to release his third album, titled Munhu Haana Chakanaka, in which he features Peter Moyo's top instrumentalists.

In an interview with H-Metro, Joy Commander said he was humbled by the appreciation he keeps getting from some of the industry's top players.

“I will be releasing my third album on Friday (today) which I recorded at Gart Media Studios.

“I feel blessed after raiding Peter Moyo's top instrumentalists — Spencer

Khumulani, Jahwi and his chanter Shiga Shiga — who featured on four songs.

“The three have expressed their desire to join my band and who am I to deny them vacancies which are there?” said the composer.

Joy Commander, who announced his arrival on the music landscape in 2013 with the album Imba Yacho, said he was now living his dream.

“I am an electrical engineer who earns a decent salary but I can't resist the musical calling in me.

“It's like I am running away from myself by not following that calling, which defines me.

“I really enjoy being back into music and I will do my best to remain at the top,” he said.

Unpacking the new album, Joy Commander said Munhu Haana Chakanaka had no fillers.

“My album carries six tracks — namely Mukoma, Ane Benzi, Wendenga and Mai Linda, which featured Shiga Shiga.

“Two more songs - Kuve Shasha and Vakangwara Havana Nhamo makes the album complete.

“This album is my early Christmas present and my third studio project after my 2018 production, Rudo Mukurarama.”

Joy Commander told H-Metro that he was now working on new visuals.

“I have realised that my fans have embraced my music but are not seeing videos.

“I will invest in musical videos as has become the norm nowadays.

“We can't afford to continue starving them of new videos for no reason.”
