Man offers US$20 maintenance

- Kundainashe Chimbi

A HARARE man offered US$20 for the upkeep of his child after being dragged to court by his former wife.

Roland Taderera’s ex-wife, Jacqueline Chipunza, was demanding US$50, but he said it was too much for the five-month-old child’s needs.

“I cannot pay the amount that she is claiming, l cannot afford it.

“I am offering US$20 because l work as a driver for two weeks every month and l earn $89 000 per month.

“I also pay rentals for myself and l need food as well, so it will be difficult for me to pay more than US$20.

“I know that the amount is not enough, but for the meantime that is what l can afford,” Taderera said.

Magistrate Judith Taruvinga ordered Taderera to pay $30 000 per month until the child reaches the age of 18.
