TINO GETS RINGSIDE SEAT

-

TINO Kadewere didn’t feature but, at last, he had a front row seat to watch his Spanish La Liga side, RCD Mallorca, win 2-0 on Sunday.

They beat Villarreal, in the Yellow Submarine’s first game, after the departure of Unai Emery.

Villarreal are now under coach Quique Setién.

Kadewere was named in the starting XI but spent the whole match watching from the bench.

The hosts dominated possession in the first quarter of an hour but had to thank keeper Rulli for a tenth-minute save when Jaume Costa was put in by Lee Kang-in.

However, on 32 minutes Mallorca’s Kosovo striker Vedat Muriqi put them ahead with a goal similar to that against Espanyol, set up by full-back Gio González, but with assistance from a deflection.

In the second half Mallorca were still content with ceding possession to Villarreal, who weren’t creating chances until Samuel Chukwueze’s 68th-minute shot went just wide.

Five minutes later, the Nigeria international hit the bar.

But the Villarreal threat was soon snuffed out with Amath Ndiaye volleying in from the edge of the area on 75 minutes.

Nicolas Jackson’s shot went wide as the Yellow Submarine tried to get back into the match, but it wasn’t to be, and the home fans were soon calling for Setién’s head.

Kadewere has not featured for Mallorca since joining them, on loan, from Olympique Lyon.

He suffered a serious injury, in the week he was preparing for his debut match, against champions Real Madrid.

The initial reports were that the Warriors forward would be out for the rest of the season.

There were even reports he would be returned to his principal club, Lyon, for treatment and rehabilitation.

However, he has made a quicker recovery and was this week thrown into the Match Day squad. - H-Metro Reporter/Majorca Daily Bulletin
