Irresponsible father offers $20k
CHAITWA Nyamakuvhengu offered $20 000 for the upkeep of his two minor children after being dragged to the Harare Civil Court by his ex-wife, Felistas Dube, yesterday.
Chaitwa said he has a lot of other responsibilities and can’t afford the $80 000 Felistas was demanding.
“I earn $100 000 and have a lot of responsibilities.
“I take care of my mother and young brother’s children.
“I am the one who pays their fees and wants us to pay 50/50,” he told the court.
Felistas rejected his offer saying it was inadequate.
“He has never paid fees or bought uniforms for the children before.
“He takes full responsibility for his brother’s children and neglects his own.
“All he does is take the children for holiday, but does not bring them back.
“I have to find money to bring the children back a day before schools reopen,” she said.
Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini granted Felistas the sum of $40 000 plus US$50 and advised Chaitwa to prioritise his own children more than another man’s children.
