IT’S AN UNFAIR WORLD

. . . We beat Pakistan, now they’re about to win the World Cup

- H-Metro Editor

THEY say the world is very unfair, and they are right.

For, how can one explain that Pakistan, the team we beat by one-run in that thriller in Perth, just two weeks ago, have now qualified for the ICCT20 World Cup final?

A day after our gallant Chevrons returned home, from their tour Down Under, Pakistan powered into the final after a deserved and comprehensive seven-wicket win over New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground yesterday.

The Asian heavyweights chased the 152 target, for the loss of three wickets, after their openers laid the foundation with an impressive century stand.

Two weeks ago, it looked gloomy for Pakistan after they slumped to a one-run loss to the Chevrons who were powered by Sikandar Raza’s match-winning 3/25.

At one stage, in the chase, Pakistan were 94-6. However, they have won all their matches since that defeat, starting with a six-wicket win over the

Netherlands, whom they restricted to 91/9. Pakistan then beat South Africa by 33 runs * (DLS method) in a rain-disrupted match before completing a five-wicket win over Bangladesh.

Now, they have just beaten one of the favour- ites New Zealand, in the semi-finals. Just a cheeky question — if Pakistan win the World Cup, will we be allowed to remind the globe that, at this tournament, we beat the champions?
