Chauraya trial adjourned
THE indecent assault trial involving Harare dealer Munyaradzi Chauraya was temporarily halted on Friday after his lawyer objected to playing of the assault video.
Chauraya is accused of indecently assaulting his twoyear-old step daughter and recording a video which he later distributed.
The matter is being heard by Harare magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka, who remanded it to November 18 for ruling.
Chauraya’s lawyer objected to the production of the video in court and was told to raise the objection in writing for the State to respond to.
So far, the child’s father and aunt have testified in court and the mother is expected to testify next.
Chauraya pleaded not guilty to the indecent assault
and producing pornographic content charges.
In his defence, Chauraya told the court that the charges were orchestrated by his ex-wife in a bid to blackmail him after he terminated their relationship due to her infidelity.
He further told the court that he had a tattoo on his left thigh which doesn’t show in the alleged video in which his alleged step daughter is seen touching and playing with his manhood.
Tafara Chirambira appeared for the State.
