Chadya wins Golden Glove award

- Bruce Chikuni

NGEZI Platinum Stars finished their Castle Lager Premiership season in similar fashion to how they opened their campaign.

They hammered Whawha 5-0 at Baobab on Saturday in their last fixture of the campaign.

The Mhondoro side kick-started the season with a similar victory against Bulawayo City, at the same venue.

Delic Murimba scored four goals for the hosts to take his tally to 13 and the impressive Tendai Matindife, tipped to be a real star in the future, added the fifth.

Murimba is the second player in this campaign to have netted four times in a match and he has earned himself third spot in the league’s scoring chart.

Ironically, Manica Diamonds’ Nyasha Chintuli was the first to hit that mark in the opening fixture of the season while he was still at Ngezi.

The club’s goalie, Nelson Chadya, kept his 18th clean sheet of the campaign to beat Dynamos’ Taimon Mvula and Chicken Inn’s Donovan Bernard to secure his first Premiership Golden Glove.

Before the weekend fixtures, Chadya was just one clean sheet ahead of his counterparts.

Despite what was termed the team’s worst season, Ngezi have secured a top four status.

The Mhondoro side’s second top goal scorer is Tinashe Murasiranwa, who has just three goals to his name. Chadya said it’s a dream come true to finish the season with the Golden Glove.

“It feels good to see the tables turning and I learnt a lot during our tough phase.

“As a player it made me stronger.

“And, it’s also amazing how we remained united, fighting as a team to get ourselves out of the difficult times.

“For me, it’s a dream come true. I have always wanted to win the Golden Glove race,” said Chadya.

It’s also Murimba’s best season.

The 23-year-old had struggled to hit double figures since making his debut for Hwange in 2017.

After his departure from Chipangano, he joined Triangle where he had two under par spells, registering nine goals during his stay at Gibbo.

“It’s been a good season for me despite what we went through as a team.

“I’m happy with how I have been improving. “I think I have settled in well and I’m still in the learning process although I feel I should have done better for the club than what I did.

“It was my first time to score more than two goals since making my Premiership debut and I hope it’s a sign of better things to come,” said Murimba.

Murimba and Chadya are also going to battle for the club’s awards slated for December 2.
