Woman cries in court
A HARARE woman cried in court while claiming maintenance for her three-yearold child from her former husband.
Only cited as Mhuriro, in the court papers, the woman claimed her ex-husband, Gerald Chiawamo, duped her of money and bought a commuter omnibus.
“He wronged me when he swindled me of my money and bought a commuter omnibus, which he registered in his name. He told me not to go anywhere close to the kombi saying he will get me arrested if I defy his command.
“He also told me that he will not pay fees for our minor child because he wants me to suffer,” she said.
Mhuriro was claiming $561 460 for the upkeep of the minor.
“I want $561 460 for our child who is threeyears-old,” she said
In his response, Gerald Chiawamo offered to pay $50 000. He promised to pay fees if the child was transferred to a Government school.
“I am offering $50 000 and I want the child to be transferred to a Government school because a private school is expensive,” he said.
Mhuriro turned down the offer and refused to transfer the child to a Government school.
“I am not going to transfer the child because that is the school that I want my child to attend.
“He owns two commuter omnibuses and he
earns US$90 per day from each bus. I want him to pay school fees because he took my money and made my business become broke,” she said.
Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Chiawamo to pay $60 000 in child support plus school fees.
