Mafuleni, son invade Theatre in the Park
MBIRA maestro Jacob Mafuleni and son Abel will tomorrow invade Theatre in the Park for a deep mbira session.
Dubbed “Father & Son Concert”, the event is set to attract a cosmopolitan crowd as has become the norm at his shows both locally and abroad.
Rooftop Promotions is behind the show.
Jacob, who has showcased his talent and gained fame for his performances as a musician, singer, dancer, instrument maker, song arranger and teacher, has been in the game since 1992.
Jacob sings, dances, plays mbira, njari, marimba, guitar and congas.
Rooftop Promotions programmes director, Passmore Ndlovu, said all is set for the mbira concert.
“The duo is excited to perform at the event.
“His son Abel Mafuleni, started his career in music at a very tender age under the tutelage of his parents Jacob and Martha.
“He developed interest in arrangements for marimba and mbira in Afro-jazz, Zimbabwean sungura music and traditional mbira repertoire,” said Ndlovu.
He said Jacob’s deep-seasoned passion for traditional music enabled him to tour countries such as
China and USA showcasing his skills.
“He took up short musical classes in the USA and also managed to record Marimba tracks in Santa Cruz, California,” he said.
Ndlovu encouraged the
public to book their tickets in advance.
“The concert will start at 7pm and the gates will open at 6pm. Admission is US$5 and tickets are being sold at Theatre in the Park,” he said.
