Regular health check-ups vital
A HEALTHY body, proper diet and constant checks on mental wellness can make one live longer.
It’s a huge investment many people across the globe have fully embraced.
Locally, we are also making strides in this area. It’s also an area where health experts, fitness enthusiasts and psychologists place much value on.
People with chronic illnesses have also embraced this new lifestyle to live longer.
The same practice and culture has also been hailed for its effectiveness.
However, there are some people who still gamble with life by not prioritising their health.
This call was recently made by the Medical and Dental Private Practitioners Association of Zimbabwe (MDPPZA) founding president, Dr Johannes Marisa.
He made this call following a surge in hypertension and diabetic-related deaths.
He urged the public to have regular medical check ups during an outreach programme where MDPPZA partnered with Forever Association of Zimbabwe (FAZ).
The elderly turned out in numbers for free medical check-ups.
Dr Marisa warned people, who ignore free medical check-ups or default on taking medication, that they are simply applying for their own deaths.
He also warned patients to religiously take their medication since hypertension and diabetes were manageable.
It has also emerged that some people have been defaulting in taking their medication after being fooled into taking charms, herbs or concoctions, which damage the body.
The renowned doctor and philanthropist urged people to trust their medical practitioners with their expertise.
Dr Marisa’s strong warning comes at a time when fear of the unknown has been forcing people to shun medical check-ups.
In this era, when many diseases are curable or can be suppressed, it’s better for people to know their health status early.
This helps them to manage their conditions as they would be living with a positive mind.
By knowing your health status, it helps one to plan for the future as well as manage the condition.
This will also ensure that one does not default in taking medication.
Medical check-ups should become a common phenomenon among people who care about their lives.
In life, we should never take a gamble with life, since we only live once.
We should always think of our dependents in every decision we make.
By failing to take medication, we are only doing harm to ourselves.
Our children and other dependents’ future should never be shattered by our recklessness. Getting tested against curable and chronic diseases should become part of our culture.
As parents and guardians, we should always be remembered for sharing our wisdom and giving hope to those in despair.
And, one of the ways to show that responsibility, is to never gamble with life.
Good health is the best gift one can ever get on earth.
It’s a precious present many have been yearning for over the years.
It’s important that we safeguard our health and that means getting regular checks so that we are able to deal with our challenges early.
