Neighbours in court over boundary hedge

- Natasha Mbewe

A HARARE woman was dragged to court by her neighbour for insulting and disturbing his peace.

Tawanda Chikara applied for a peace order against Sekai Karitau, citing verbal abuse and magistrate Tamara Chibanda granted the order.

Chikara accused Karitau of planting a hedge across the boundary and insulting him.

“She planted a hedge and crossed the boundary to my yard.

“The hedge is growing bigger and encroaching into my yard, so I decided to trim it and she started insulting me.

“I just want her to stop insulting me and remove her hedge that is in my yard,” said Chikara.

In response, Karitau dismissed the allegations and claimed Chakara was the one who was abusive and violent.

“The yard he is staying in is not his, but it belongs to his brother and he does not know anything about the demarcation.

“He is the one encroaching into my yard,” she said.

“He beat up my child claiming he uprooted his flower and he has been threatening me with a knife.

“I reported him to the police and he paid a fine. He invites a lot of people and they start laughing at me.”

Magistrate Chibindi ordered Karitau not to insult her neighbour.

She urged both parties to maintain peace.
