‘YOU ARE A WITCH’
. . . woman granted protection against abusive son
AN elderly woman has been granted a protection order against her abusive son, who accuses her of being a witch.
Magistrate Tamara Chibindi was convinced by Juliet Muchenga’s submission that her son, Walter Musasiwa, has been subjecting her to physical and verbal abuse.
“He is my son, but he treats me like I am not his mother and he accuses me of being a witch.
“Whenever he gets drunk, he insults me, he urinates by my bedroom door and switches off electricity when I am cooking.
“He also pours water on the bed where I sleep,” she said.
Muchenga, who was looking sad in the courtroom, said the whole neighbourhood now hates her as they believe Musasiwa’s accusations.
“The whole neighbourhood hates me because he has been telling everyone that I am a witch.
“I want him to show me the graves of those that I have killed.
“I took care of him when he was ill, I did everything in my power for him to get better.”
Muchenga told the court that she wants her son to return her to her relatives.
“He took me from where I used to stay with my relatives, but if he wants to treat me this way, he should just send me back there.”
In defence, Musasiwa denied what his mother was telling the court.
“I do not threaten her, but at times I will be trying to tell her not to associate with the younger generation.
“I did not know that I would be offending her because I will be talking to her nicely,” Musasiwa added.
Magistrate Chibindi ordered Musasiwa not to physically or verbally abuse his mother.
