- Paidamoyo Bore

NON-GOVERNMENTAL organisation, Whispers, has commended Government and the media’s efforts in denouncing and fighting violence against women and children.

The abuse of women and children has recently been on the rise.

Whispers executive director, Sibonokuhle Buhlungu, said the organisation has realised the Government’s efforts to fight abuse of women and young girls.

“We appreciate all the hard work being put in to raise awareness and punish the perpetrators.

“This alone shows that the Government is not tolerant of the abusers,” she said.

The the organisation will today hold a solidarity march with the Government, and other stakeholders, against child rape and gender-based violence.

“People will be marching from Harare Gardens and stop at Mbuya Nehanda statue with candles to signify our unity with families of victims,” said Buhlungu.

The march will be held under the theme ‘Candlelit Out Cry Against Abuse on Women and Children’.

“We decided to hold the march as it marks the first day of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.”

She added:

“As young women, we invite you all to the solidarity march as we want an end to child rape and abuse of women.”
