When will this madness stop?

-

SHARING and recording of nude or sexually explicit videos or pictures is both wicked and criminal in Zimbabwe.

It attracts a fine or a jail term not exceeding one year.

Despite being a serious offence, it’s sad to note that pornography is still being consumed by many in Zimbabwe.

A number of local celebrities have also been caught in this web.

This shocking trend has also been going on for years.

And, many people are still curious to witness the day our courts of law punish revenge porn offenders.

The Censorship and Entertainment Control Act is also against the sharing of sexually explicit content, indecent or prohibited articles.

Aptly named revenge porn, this sickening act has left victims reeling at the hands of perpetrators.

Lives and careers have been wrecked as a result of revenge porn or sextortion.

Legal experts equate this digital abuse - also known as non-consensual pornography - close to sexual abuse or simply emotional blackmail.

This practice has a bearing on victims’ lives as they need counselling to recover from this trauma.

Without proper counselling or immediate help, some have committed suicide.

In yesterday’s issue, we carried yet another case of suspected revenge porn involving Chillspot co-producer Rodger “Levels” Kadzimwe and his former girlfriend, Ashley “Shashl” Moyo.

Shashl is also a musician signed under Levels’ recording stable.

Levels and Shashl’s tale started off in the recording studio.

At one point, they kept people guessing as Levels would share cosy and romantic pictures of themselves together on social media.

However, the script went horribly wrong when Shashl, as she claims, decided to end the relationship.

She described Levels as a love rat who was preying on stable members.

Her situation got worse when their sex tape leaked into the public domain in what many people are convinced is revenge porn.

On Sunday, Shashl was devastated following the leaking of the sex tape which is now awash on social media.

She likened her alleged sexual abuse, at the hands of Levels, to rape and claims she was cornered and coerced into having sex with him.

Shashl claimed Levels boasted of being connected to powerful figures.

She also claimed he threatened to stop recording her if she didn’t comply with his demands, which is tantamount to sextortion.

Now, the case is under the police, many people are calling for a thorough job in investigating this case.

The “Shashl-Levels” case is a good example of how revenge porn can be done.

Toxic affairs should be avoided at all costs and it’s always recommended for one to walk away when they start to detect some toxicity.

We can’t understand why people keep recording their sexual activities especially given the embarrassment that such cases, when they leak, have caused to a number of celebrities.

Now and again, it has always ended in tears and real damage has been inflicted on many people.
