POLY STUDENT EXPELLED
. . . fraud cited as reason for expulsion
A HARARE Polytechnic student has been expelled for allegedly defrauding Nyaradzo Life Assurance Company during her internship.
Faith Mukome, who was pursuing a National Diploma in Accountancy in the Commerce Division, allegedly committed the fraud at Nyaradzo during her attachment.
Her contract was terminated by Nyaradzo before she appeared before a disciplinary hearing at Harare Poly.
She admitted to the charges, prompting the decision to expel her for two years from the institution.
According to a letter to Mukome from Harare Poly principal, Engineer Tafadzwa Mudondo, her attachment contract with Nyaradzo was terminated after she swiped US dollar premiums with her bank card, overstating premiums and keeping excess and not giving clients fiscal receipts.
“The institution conducted a disciplinary hearing in the presence of the HOD and five lecturers from the Commerce Division.
“You admitted to the offence.
“According to SI 81 of 1999 Chap 28:02 (7) (i), the principal may permanently or temporarily exclude, remove or expel any student from the premises of a teacher’s college or technical or vocational institution if, in the opinion of the Principal:
“One behaves in a manner unbefitting of a student of the college or institution or in a manner likely to bring the college or institution into disrepute or has continuation as student of the college or institution would be likely to prejudice the maintenance of good order and discipline at the college.
“Consequently, I do hereby expel you from Harare Polytechnic for two years in that you admitted to the offence.
“Note that you are no longer a student with effect from November 15.”
Added the Principal:
“You can re-apply for admission through the Principal’s office after the expiry of your expulsion. Accountancy is a profession which demands a high degree of ethics and professional integrity.
“Your continued stay as a student will likely cause the internal and external public to lose faith in the training process.”
