Police intensify anti-drugs campaigns

PEOPLE have been urged to report anyone abusing and offering drugs to youths as police intensify the fight against drug and substance abuse.

Police launched an anti-drugs blitz in which they're conducting raids and stop and search.

An operation code named “No to Dangerous Drugs and Illicit Substances: See Something, Say Something” was launched at ZRP Southerton on Friday.

Permanent Secretary for Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Tafadzwa Muguti, launched the campaign.

He urged school authoritie­s to treat drug and substance abuse as a criminal, not a disciplina­ry matter.

"We are calling for collective responsibi­lity in fighting drug and substance abuse. We want school authoritie­s to help us fight this by reporting those found abusing drugs and substance," said Muguti.

Officer commanding Harare province, Commission­er Wonder Tembo, led detectives along Willowvale Road in searching vehiclew at a roadblock.

More than 10 suspects were arrested, among the suspects was Munyaradzi Mudyiravan­ji, 34, who was found with more than 50 bottles of bronclear hidden in his vehicle.

National police spokespers­on, Assistant Commission­er Paul Nyathi, said on the same day police in Entumbane, Bulawayo, arrested Shadreck Choruma, 38.

"One suspect was arrested in connection with illegal possession of 4x200ml of Benylin syrup, Goldgessi syrup, 30ml extra white skin lightening cream and steroids pills. Police will leave no stone unturned in bringing all drug dealers and anyone found in possession of such substances and drugs," he said.
