Models join COVID-19 fight
RISING model Tatenda Njanike (pictured) has roped in 18 other models in a campaign to raise awareness on coronavirus (COVID-19).
Njanike, who is Mr Zimbabwe People’s Choice 2020, told NewsDay Life & Style that artists had a critical role to play as communication agents in times of tragedy.
“In light of COVID-19 pandemic, we as models have decided to carry short messages to the public to hope for a brighter morning when this passes. We have collaborated despite being confined to our homes where we cannot move much. The only way we can reach each other without being physical is through platforms that carry words to people across borders,” he said.
Njanike, who is also a youth advocate, said their messages would provide comfort and consolation to the people.
“We are currently confined to our homes for safety but there are still funny and creative ways of engaging one another to inspire hope and stay connected. We thought of using our digital tools to remind people that we share common struggles and common goals despite being apart. With our collective prayers and love for one another we will truly leave no one behind,” he said.
He said he was working with fellow models Devson Luzane, Byron Mulinga, BenChest, Amanda Mutambirwa, Rishabh Verma, Lancelot Ndhlovu, Tapiwanashe Mutsimba, Takudzwa Machingura, Alexis Kaandry, Kudakwashe Mutaku, Taropafadzwanashe Mudzingwa, Gabriel Chiduku, Martin Uladi, Arthur Mugaviri, Panashe Murandu, Dorothy Bhebhe, Clint Kugowa and Gladys Musona.
Njanike contested at the Mr Zimbabwe 2019-2020 pageant and was crowned Mr Zimbabwe People’s Choice.
He has also been a brand ambassador and commercial model for The African Diplomat Youth Empowerment Fashion Show, 4 May International, Tamskie’s Design Hub and Ivhu Tribe.
