Katsande donates to Mtoko families
“I am giving back to the community that gave birth to me. The same community which moulded me, my parents grew up there.”
FORMER Warriors skipper Willard Katsande ( pictured) has donated groceries worth R50 000 to 200 family in his rural home, Mtoko.
The coronavirus-induced lockdown has brought about suffering to Zimbabweans and Katsande believes his act of benevolence will go a long way in helping them to sustain themselves.
The Kaizer Chiefs defensive linkman said he decided to give back to the community that was instrumental in his development.
“I am giving back to the community that gave birth to me, the same community which moulded me. My parents grew up there,” he said.
“I am what I am today because of them. I am very popular there and they know me and they always support me because I am representing them here.
“Some sacrifice a lot to walk long distances to watch me on television playing football, so in these difficult times we have to be together and remember each other.
“If our people are suffering and struggling, let us do the little we can to help them because we are one people.”
Katsande joins other players and former players who have extended a helping hand to the communities they hail from during the lockdown.
Former Warriors midfielder Esrom Nyandoro, Muzondiwa Mugadza and Richard Choruma teamed up and donated foodstuffs to the Mzilikazi community in Bulawayo. Supersport forward Kuda Mahachi also donated to underprivileged families in Mzilikazi.
