De Jongh opens online football class

- BY FORTUNE MBELE

AFTER suffering the effects of inactivity coupled with the uncertainty over the start of the Premier Soccer League this year, FC Platinum coach Hendrikus Pieter de Jongh has opened an online football class which will run over the next two weeks for his followers.

The Dutchman said he would be posting short videos on Wednesdays and Sundays for his followers on Twitter and Instagram.

He announced his intention on his Twitter account on

Monday.

“I’ll be doing this week a short online video football clinic about technical basics to the community of football as part of my programme during this lockdown period,” he said.

The former Highlanders coach yesterday confirmed his programme which he said targeted his online followers and the football community at large.

“I will be posting a short video two times in a week on my Twitter and Instagram about the most important things in football, passing, ball control, dribbling, shooting. It's for everyone but more for my followers and the rest of the community. Many people out there do not have the technical or tactical knowledge,” De Jongh said.

He has close to 3 000 followers on Twitter and 1 600 on

Instagram.

The former Highlanders gaffer said he would be enlisting the services of a Moroccan friend Alex Ghassane El Barhame, who was his assistant during his stint in Mongolia and he would also be posting his videos online.

He might be inviting one or two players from FC Platinum to assist in making his video clips.

“I will be doing it two times in a week only. It will be short video clips. This is information about the most important points of the game. Maybe I will invite one or two of my players,” he said.

About Ghassane El Barhame, he said: “He will be doing videos from his home country. He is an expert in nutrition and fitness and high in football knowledge. I worked with him in Mongolia and he also does a lot of online training,” the Dutchman said.

De Jongh is a holder of a Uefa A Licence and has coached a number of clubs in Europe and Africa but without much success.

He arrived in the country late last year and helped resuscitate Highlanders and with all hope pinned on the Dutchman extending his contract with the Bulawayo giants, he abandoned ship and crossed to FC Platinum, taking charge of their last Caf Champions League assignments.

He is yet to preside over a league match with FC Platinum after the start of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League was suspended in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
