IN response to ED seeks divine help as crises mount, BEN MANYENYENI says: As a citizen, I will not participate in the national day of prayer which President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for. Let us not play games with the Almighty God. I will actually look for anything diametrically different from that act of religious fanaticism devoid of a true spirit of worship. On this national prayer request, he should go to God when he is trying (or has tried without success) as President. He cannot ask us to beg the Almighty when he has refused to do what is required to succeed. Prayer cannot be a substitute for performance. For Zimbabwe, God has so far protected us from COVID-19 in a big way — praise and worship! And, in fact, apart from the very predictable corruption, the government has handled the coronavirus pandemic crisis well. For hunger, we should get food from our very rich farms: no excuse there. For the economy, we need a clean, trusted government, leadership — not this rulership. For now the only genuine prayer that the President should invite the citizens to is for new leadership.
MAKURUWANI says: This is ridiculous and I think prayer is not the solution to our problems at the moment. As Africans, we have become prisoners of lamentations and sorrows when we know the answer to our problems is to stop corruption and start delivering on electoral promises. The Zanu PF government must stop lamenting and blaming sanctions and the opposition for its policy missteps.
GARA MUMBA IWE says: It is pointless praying and fasting unless there is true repentance from those in charge. I don’t think God is hoodwinked by insincere actions. We have been praying, fasting and repenting for decades, but results have not been coming. Now is time for our leaders to do a bit of introspection.
IN response to MDC Alliance abductions: Lawyers accuse Kazembe of lying, GIRE says: I may not be a lawyer and I don't even know the full facts of what transpired, but I understand giving false information to a court is a criminal offence. Imagine if a lady were to provide fake affidavits and cook up proof alleging rape and the so-called “rapist” is sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for a crime he never committed. Let the court's decisions be based on truth and no false or fake information.
