NewsDay (Zimbabwe)

10 years on — A well-travelled journey

-

SiSter paper to The Standard and Zimbabwe Independent weeklies, NewsDay hit the streets on June 4, 2010 and since then it has never turned back from its journey as a daily paper of choice with its candid and credible news. i happened to have been very lucky to witness the birth of this great paper by that time as the assistant distribution manager. it was not an easy transition having been used to distributing weeklies and magazines — the pressure of a daily paper was something else.

However, the transition sailed smoothly, thanks to the management team which boosted our fleet by five new NP300 state-of-the-art vehicles to ply countrywide routes and the hard work by the chairman trevor Ncube and team in securing funding for the paper when it was still in its infancy. eventually, numbers picked and at some point we hit a record 50 000 in print per day — a great feat by a local daily at that time. efforts were made to motivate vendors, agents and retailers by organising parties and monthly awards were given to vendors, a norm that still exists to highest selling vendors to motivate for space as the paper sought its position from established print houses. the whole team at AMH worked tirelessly with much commitment, of special mention the editorial and printing team who ensured we got the paper on time regardless of the daily challenges of our economy. Drivers exceptionally made sure they would not disappoint the chain by taking the paper far and wide in the middle of the night to ensure people woke up with a copy of their Everyday News for Everyday People. Of special mention was the afternoon of NewsDay of August 15, 2011 covering the retired General Solomon Mujuru’s death which saw sales reaching a record high and indicating the

The late Retired General Solomon Mujuru commitment by everyone involved in ensuring the paper came out on such a very short notice and hit the streets.

the sales team worked tirelessly in an effort to boost sales and efforts to go to outlying corners of the country were made and are still happening to improve and monitor sales. Now with the addition of the e-paper, only the sky is the limit for NewsDay.
