Local rapper in game-changing deal

UP-AND-COMING afrobeat and hiphop musician Stanley “Roc Meadow” Mafuta has joined forces with United States reggae and RnB superstar Rasun in a sizzling new single titled Run Away.

Rasun, originally from Jamaica, emerged about 10 years ago as one of the stars of the then new Churban music genre described by music industry analysts as “the next big thing” owing to its seamless blend of urban/rap and reggae.

Roc Meadow, in an interview with NewsDay & Style yesterday, applauded his management team, LawsEmpire, for securing Rasun’s signature for the collaboration which he said he believed would help introduce him to an international audience.

“My dream finally came true after I finally collaborated with someone out of this country in a single track. I have always cherished to do a collaboration with someone outside Zimbabwe,” he said.

“I was surprised by my management when they called me and told me that they had arranged a collaboration with America-based musician Rasun and he agreed to collaborate with me.”

Roc Meadow said at first he could not believe the turn of events as it was like a dream and almost dismissed it as a joke.

“At first I thought it was a joke. But it was real. In no time, in March, however, we did a song – both video and audio. Rasun is very close to my management so it was not very difficult for them to convince him to work with me,” he said.

The video was shot in South Africa before the coronavirus lockdown after which it was released for the international audience.

Roc Meadow has a collection of singles themed around life struggles and how to overcome them, love and the journey to reach one’s goals.

“Some are personal life encounters and the single collection covers it all,” he said.

Some of the singles under Roc Meadow's belt are Show Me Your Love, Testimony, Red Card, Keep Going On, Zvirinani, Kuomerwa, Go and Get It and Pray.

The musician said he has dedicated his talent in music to the love of Jesus Christ and he was happy that his music was enjoying extensive airplay on almost all local radio stations.
