More cash donations for debt-ridden Bosso
HIGHLANDERS have received a cash donation of $100 000 from a Highlanders FC debt clearance campaign initiated by the club’s South African supporters led by chairman Nodumo Nyathi.
The money was part of the campaign’s efforts to clear the Bulawayo giants’ legacy debt which is close to $1 million.
Nyathi confirmed the funds were sent to Highlanders on Tuesday.
“We paid $100 000 yesterday. However, this is no longer SA supporters chapter’s initiative, but a Highlanders FC debt clearance campaign that has support from Highlanders supporters in the whole world. I just started the initiative as the SA supporters chapter and got chapter support and the whole world Highlanders FC supporters support,” Nyathi said.
He also confirmed correspondence from Bosso acknowledging receipt of the funds.
“Yesterday, we received the sum of $100 000 from the RSA chapter for the debt reduction initiative. Siyabonga kakhulu (thank you). We are busy with payouts. Some are showing appreciation of the effort to reduce the debt by writing off the full amount while others are writing off certain percentages and others will be paid in full,” the letter from the club read in part.
Last week, Highlanders received close to $90 000 from Insiza North Member of Parliament Farai Taruvinga and an unnamed businessman from that area.
The money is earmarked to go towards the club’s wage bill.
Taruvinga also donated 175kg of beef to the players and the technical team.
