Exposing corruption got me fired: Zivhu

OUTSPOKEN Chivi South legislator, Killer Zivhu, who was expelled from the ruling Zanu PF party on Wednesday, says his “crime” was trying to recover US$1,5 million owed to him by an unnamed politburo member.

The expulsion has created a vacancy in his constituency and a by-election is to be held, although the election management body, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has suspended all electoral activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Zanu PF national disciplinary committee upheld a recommendation by the Masvingo provincial leadership to fire Zivhu after the legislator was accused of using social media to pursue an anti-party agenda.

This was after he proposed that First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa and MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s wife Sithokozile, coax their husbands into talks to form a unity government and restore normalcy to the country’s battered economy.

Writing on his official Twitter account (@killerzivhu1), a few minutes after his expulsion was announced, Zivhu said the Chamisa story “was a cooked one”.

“My effort to recover US$1,5 million from the most powerful politburo member yandidzingisa (got me fired),” Zivhu said.

“I reported him to Zacc (Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission) and I was to give them evidence. The Chamisa story is just a cooked one. The man was so vicious in the politburo meeting today to make sure ndadzingwa (I am fired).”

He, however, said he would remain a loyal Zanu PF member and would not contest in the by-election as an independent and pledged to finish some projects he had initiated in his constituency.

“I will remain a Zanu PF member by heart and support the President on his Vision 2030. I will not stand as an independent whatever comes,” he tweeted yesterday.

“I love Zanu PF; the people in my constituency will forever cherish my work. My focus now is to continue helping others. I will be remembered by many in the constituency. The people will never expel me in their hearts. Our community projects will be finished.”

Zivhu, the former Chivi Rural District Council chairman, is said to have further irked the party after he went ballistic about the missing rice allocation for his constituency while under suspension, telling all and sundry on social media that some people allegedly sent by Zanu PF provincial chairman and Masvingo Provincial Affairs minister Ezra Chadzamira had “stolen his rice”.

The party, however, said he was on suspension and was interdicted from doing anything on behalf of Zanu PF.
