Grabowski being treated unfairly

- Alexio Rashirai

I WOULD like to go against a story publicised in one of the State-controlled papers about former Darryn T coach Wieslaw Grabowski, which was in very bad taste.

The article attacked Grabowski unfairly and tried to portray him as racist. The article attempted to equate his conduct to that of the police officer who killed the late George Floyd, the two are as diametrically opposed as chalk is to cheese.

In Floyd’s case it was open racialism and the killing was unjustified, distasteful and cruel. There is no positive correlation between the killing of Floyd and what Grabowski barked using the word kurwa as alleged in the article.

The State-controlled media said Grabowski would bark words like kurwa pronounced as

kuvha during his time at Darryn T. This word, according to the article, is racial.

I do not speak Polish, so I do not know if this is even true. Surprisingly, the article did not seek Grabowski’s comment over these damaging allegations.

Grabowski contributed a lot to football in Zimbabwe and Zifa must give him due credit. He helped a number of Zimbabwean players and many of them later played in Europe such as Norman Mapeza, who is now one of the most successful coaches we ever produced. Mapeza’s success is credited to Grabowski.

Other players who were helped by Grabowski are Takesure Chinyama, Lloyd Chitembwe, Edelbert Dinha, Alois Bunjira, Shingirai Kawondera, Dickson Choto and Stewart Murisa.

Grabowski deserves respect for what he did for the country.

It is unfair to attack Grabowski in this way.
