IN response to US$ for civil servants, SHARK says: This is very unacceptable to give civil servant only US$75 ($1 875) as an allowance when the poverty datum line stands at ZWL$7 171. In actual fact the civil servants salaries should compare to those obtaining during the US dollar before the overthrow of the late former President Robert Mugabe who was deposed by the army.

SHANGU says: To stabilise the economy there should not be any shortcuts. President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa must revisit the reform agenda. His campaign was premised on reforms which he said the late former President Robert Mugabe was not implementing. He must abandon the anti-corruption rhetoric, walk the talk and implement his manifesto. Besides that, Mnangagwa will never be taken seriously by the people.

DANAI says: This only marks the return of US dollar salaries disguised as COVID-19 allowances. Those that were trillionaires back in 2008 like me will remember that when the economy dollarised it started in that fashion. Everyone earned a flat US$100 and slowly things started flowing. But this time, although welcome in many circles, it’s a kneejerk response by government to avoid an uprising. As long as fundamental problems of the economy are not addressed it won’t work. When the lockdown is lifted and allowances are removed there would be a problem. The biggest concern is that government might be tempted to print more Zim dollars to buy US dollars to pay its workers. But of particular interest is that government has taken the lead ahead of the private sector in paying in foreign currency when it keeps saying the Zimdollar is here to stay. What will banks and other sectors of the economy do?

IN response to Mnangagwa is panicking: Chamisa, PEDZI says: The people of Zimbabwe are now confused as they no longer know who to listen to. What the MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa must understand is that the people are still waiting for a signal from his party. We have seen that Mnangagwa has panicked but we now demand bravery from MDC Alliance for a final push.
