Mzoe7 on music upgrade

BUlaWayO’S most celebrated afro-pop musician, Mzobanzi “Mzoe7” Mlauzi (pictured) said he was working on upgrading his music which he felt should reflect maturity and a global appeal.

Mzoe7 recently surprised fans when he sampled his new music during the United Nations @75, Fusion Media Group Sessions, Creativity Diversity and Social Inclusion (CreDISI) and Bulawayo arts Festival online shows.

“I am working on my first album — United Continent of Africa (UCa), so there should be substance in the album. There is an upgrade in my music and what I was doing before were the first steps of trying to walk. Now I understand the shoes I am in and walk with confidence,” Mzoe7 told NewsDay Life & Style.

Popularly known for his Kwasa Kwasa hit song, Mzoe7 said he was working on branding himself and repackaging his sound. “I feel there should be musical maturity, substance, the sound of the package, the branding and I am working on that. I feel I am ready and there is a time for dating and a time to marry or settle down. I have been through the dating side of music and now I want marriage. I want to settle down with it for life,” he said.

Mzoe7 said the response from his fans had been overwhelming. “I am a Fela Kuti person. I am inspired by Salif Keita, youssou N’Dour and a lot of other artistes. I love the african sound, hence I’m doing afro beat or afro-fusion,” he said.

“I am building a band. I have Tumelo on drums, Vuyi on the sax, Shekinah on lead guitar and the producer is Hitkid from Bulawayo.”
