Zim singer lands ambassadorial status

LOCAL gospel musician Loice Namatai Chinyerere (pictured) has been appointed southern Africa goodwill ambassador for a United Kingdom-headquatered global organisation Kubatana Together As One for two years to market the charity’s activities.

In line with her ambassadorial role, Chinyerere will be involved in several programmes designed to promote the visibility of the Birmingham-established voluntary, nonprofit and nonpolitical organisation.

Kubatana Together As One trustee, Nancy Mkudu, said Chinyerere's scandal-free background among other qualities made her qualify for the role.

“For us, Minister Chinyerere comes across as someone fired up for God's work. Her music is very uplifting and that made me think that she could actually be someone who could tie in with our values at Kubatana Together As One. Such a long name, but the shorter names had been taken,” she said.

Chinyerere told NewsDay Life & Style yesterday that she was humbled by the recognition.

”It is a great honour to be bestowed with such a status. I am greatly humbled that Kubatana Together As One would see me as a worthy brand to be associated with theirs. I am happy to be associated with some people who appreciate my talent," she said.

The 25-year-old singer, who is riding high on her recently released song Neni Handikurase, said the desire to touch lives pushed her into music, adding that she was happy getting many testimonies over her compositions. "I believe my purpose in life is to convey God’s message through singing. I am delighted to carry the title minister. God chose me to serve in His kingdom making sure souls are brought to the kingdom where people are uplifted, healed and delivered," she said. Chinyerere signalled her arrival on the showbiz scene in 2014 with the release of her debut album Jehovah in 2019 that was to be followed by Munoera in the same year on which she featured music producer Taziwa Mbwizhu.

Apart from the two albums, Chinyerere has also released about 10 singles which include Neni Handikurasi, Zimbabwe Simuka and Nyika Pinda with the help of producers Blessing Masanga and Lyton Ngolomi.
