- BY MOSES MUGUGUNYEKI

THE Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association (MDPPZA) on Sunday donated groceries and provided free medical services to senior citizens at Bako Redonhodzo Old People’s Home in Harare.

MDPPZA is an inclusive body of medical practioneers in private practice.

The association’s interim president Johannes Marisa said MDPPZA adopted some senior citizens, including two female inmates suffering from chronic conditions.

The gesture was MDPPZA’s maiden corporate social responsibility.

“This is our first community engagement as an association and we feel as medical practitioners it is our responsibility to plough back to the community,” Marisa said.

“It is our obligation as an association to serve the community and it is our hope that others will emulate and help vulnerable groups, especially during this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Apart from donating food and clothes, we as medical specialists will render free medical care to the inmates.”

Marisa said similar services will be rendered to other vulnerable groups.

Bako Redonhodzo Old People's Home manager Emilia Mukaratirwa welcomed the donation.

“We are happy to have such kind of a gesture from a special group of people. This is commendable,” Mukaratirwa said.

“This engagement is unique in that as the elderly we are susceptible to chronic diseases and you are here to provide free medical services.”
