Central Region warns Tongogara

- BY TERRY MADYAUTA

THE Zifa Central Region Division One football league has warned returning club Tongongara to behave themselves as they are set to make their comeback to Division One football following a two-season ban.

The army side were handed a twoyear ban in 2018 after their fans turned violent following a 1-0 loss to TelOne in a season-deciding match.

Tongogara fans were infuriated after their side failed to gain promotion and started beating up opposition fans and officials.

They also caused extensive damage to property at the match venue.

They are set to return when the season finally gets underway.

However, the league’s leadership has warned them against committing a similar offence in future.

Central Region Division One football league chairman Stanley Chapeta said:

“We welcome them back because they have served their suspension.”

“Our hope is that we will not have similar problems in the future. We would like to warn them not to be found on the wrong side of the law again. We don’t want a similar thing in the future because those events tarnished our image as a league. There were losses made, injuries and we don’t want to regret this decision in the future.”

He added: “This (warning) goes to all the teams in the Central Region and any team that violates the regulations will be brought to book.”

Tongogara will be determined to make a mark on their return, and are one of the teams expected to challenge for the title, which comes with a ticket to the Premier League.

They will, however, face stiff competition from TelOne and perennial campaigners Sheasham, who will also be vying for the same slot.
