PROMINENT educationist and Crusader Real Estate founder, Raymond Tarimanako Muzembe, who died on Monday after a short illness, will be laid to rest today in Harare, his family said.

Muzembe (70) made a mark in the real estate industry and was revered as one of the pioneers of the Mt Pleasant Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church men’s association.

The association helped spiritual fellowshipping and moulded young parishioners over the years like Edward Chagonda, Clement Chidziva, Edmund Berejena and corporate executives like Marshal Pemhiwa , Newman Shanji, George Chimhini, Munyaradzi Musarurwa, Ladoi Chonzi, Shingirayi Meki, Tungamirai Gwatirisa and Calvin Shara, among many others.

“He brought wisdom and humour to our meetings, ever smiling and never sulked. He was a close family friend and we used to speak literally every day and he had a unique ability to inspire and uplift everybody around him with his tremendous energy,” close friend and fellow alderman Ben Chikwanha said during a church service held at the Roman Catholic Church in Mt Pleasant yesterday.

Born in Chendambuya, Rusape in Manicaland province, Muzembe attended Marist Brothers Nyanga before moving to Harare.

He kicked off his professional career as a civil servant working for the Education ministry before venturing into real estate.

People from all walks of life described him as an honest, jovial, respectful, affable and focused mentor who had time to listen to everyone.

He is survived by wife Selina and several children.

A MUTARE couple is in trouble after marrying off their 15-year-old daughter for $40.

The couple appeared in court yesterday before Mutare magistrate Prisca Manhibi facing charges of pledging a female person as defined in section 94 (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

A 20-year-old Mutare man (who cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor), to whom the girl had been married off, has already appeared in court facing charges of having sexual intercourse with the minor girl.

He admitted guilty, together with his supposed in laws, to the charges and will be sentenced on Monday.

It is the State’s case that on July 29, the 20-year-old man told the minor’s parents that he intended to marry her.

The couple, however, made an arrangement that he pays any lobola amount of his choice before taking their daughter for marriage.

On August 2, 2020, the man brought $40 as per agreement and gave it to the couple, who handed their daughter to the accused.

The matter came to light after neighbours reported to nearest police station, leading to the trio’s arrests.
