Munetsi bounces back

- BY FORTUNE MBELE

WARRIORS midfielder Marshall Munetsi (pictured) could be back in action for his French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims tomorrow after missing the last match due to suspension.

Stade de Reims take on Rennes in an away league match tomorrow.

Munetsi was shown a straight red card five minutes into the second half as his side lost 1-0 to Metz and missed last Sunday’s tie against Paris-Saint Germain.

After the red card, he, however, sat on the bench on September 24 and watched his side fall 4-1 on a penalty shoot-out to Swiss side Fehervar in the Europa League third qualifying round.

The match had ended in a goalless draw in regulation time.

Stade de Reims have had a terrible start to the 2020-2021 Ligue 1, sitting second from the bottom on the log table with no win, a single draw and four defeats.

Munetsi is one of the players likely to be called for national duty as the Warriors face Malawi in a friendly match at Kamuzu Stadium next Sunday as they prepare for Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria next month.

Other players likely to be called up include England-based Marvelous Nakamba, whose Aston Villa lost 1-0 to Stoke City on Thursday to bow out of the Carabao Cup.

Nakamba played a full game in the defeat and Villa take on champions Liverpool tomorrow.

Warriors skipper Knowledge Musona’s Belgian Pro League side KAS Eupen clash with Cercle Brugge today, while Tino Kadewere’s French side Lyon take on Marseille tomorrow.

Defender Teenage Hadebe’s Yeni Malatyspor is home to Antalyaspor today.

Warriors gaffer Zdravko Logarusic appears to have an inclination towards players based in Europe who are participating in active leagues.

Defender Alec Mudimu is in Moldova, striker Macaulay Bonne in England, while goalkeeper Martin Mapisa is

in Spain.
