Tight security plan for Zimbabwe cricket team

LAHORE — DIG Operations Ashfaq Khan has said police personnel are fully prepared for the security of the Pakistan-Zimbabwe cricket series.

He visited Gaddafi Stadium and met Gaddafi Stadium manager Col (Rtd) Elias, security manager Gaddafi Stadium Col (Rtd) Khalid and other PC officials.

The DIG said police were playing a vital role in the revival of internatio­nal cricket.

He said additional personnel would be deployed at the teams’ residence and routes, while snipers would be deployed at high-rise buildings.

Khan said the movement of teams and around the stadium would be monitored with the help of CCTV cameras, adding that search and sweep operations are underway in the adjacent areas of the stadium. During the cricket series, Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit and police stations vehicles will be constantly patrolling, he added. The Zimbabwe cricket team and officials coronaviru­s test results returned negative and after spending a week in a bio secure bubble.

According to the details, coronaviru­s tests were conducted on the Zimbabwe team’s arrival in Pakistan and the results were negative.

The coronaviru­s tests of Zimbabwe coaches and officials were also negative. All the Zimbabwean players and officials will remain in quarantine until October 27.

The team will practise at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on October 28 and 29. Meanwhile, the coronaviru­s tests of Pakistan players were conducted and their results were expected on yesterday.

The training camp for the Pakistani players will last four days for which the Pakistan Cricket Board has allowed the players to have families with them.
