IN response to Govt moves to dock teachers’ salaries, GWIZHIKITI says: So our government is now so clueless that it cannot find solutions to the education crisis? All it thinks of is firing its employees, docking their salaries or intimidating labour leaders. Why does President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government not think of addressing the problems the teachers, nurses, doctors etc face, and not persecute them for raising genuine concerns? Mnangagwa’s government should not turn a blind eye to its workers’ concerns. Such concerns have a ripple effect on the citizens. We cannot have ministers and directors as well as the politically-connected plundering this country’s resources, when those who are sweating are surviving on crumbs.
IN response to 5 Masvingo family members catch COVID-19, PIKIRAYI says: It’s so sad that the numbers are not going down. The rate of infection, at one time, seemed to have gone down, but then because of the opening of the economy and schools, they had started rising. I am also worried about the seemingly rising number of deaths, with most of those succumbing to COVID-19 being from Bulawayo. Let us all be vigilant against this virulent disease. I am more worried about the level of carelessness I am witnessing at leisure centres such as bars, clubs and bottle stores. It’s so worrying.
IN response to Companies urged to drill own boreholes, MBUDAYA says: It’s a very good suggestion taking into consideration that our local authorities are failing to deliver water to our taps. More worrying also is the rate at which residential stands are being parcelled out on wetlands, which are natural purifiers and reservoirs for underground water. The water table is lowering year in, year out as a result of less and less rainfall. We cannot all drill boreholes at our premises. I think local authorities should use the dry seasons to desilt the dams and deepen them. Also, the local authorities should avoid parcelling out residential or commercial stands on wetlands. I think the councillors need orientation programmes, or rather there should be a certain level of qualification for one to hold such leadership positions. We need people who understand issues, who know what climate change is, who know about its effects, not just some harebrained pretenders.
