How best to improve our economy

- Tendai Peter Munyanduri New Patriotic Front president

IF we are to improve the Zimbabwean economy, we have to ensure that exports are more than imports in terms of monetary value. If we sell more than we buy from other countries, there will be a foreign currency surplus which will improve our balance of payments position as a country and strengthen the Zimbabwean dollar against the United States dollar.

In order to achieve the above, Zimbabwe has to make an effort to manufacture new cars, aeroplanes, cellphones, clothes and shoes including having textbooks written by Zimbabweans in every bookshop in the world even on Amazon. We have to ensure that there is medication made in Zimbabwe in every pharmacy.

Zimbabwe has to improve its ministerial appointment policy to ensure that every minister has qualifications for the core business of the ministry they lead. This will ensure deciveness in the design and implementation of government policy for the ministries.

Every diploma, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate degree student must author a textbook as requirement for graduation so that there are textbooks for sale written by Zimbabweans in every bookshop in the world.

Zimbabwe has to adopt import substitution and local content policies. The economy has to be converted from being agro-based to a technology-based.

In other words, Zimbabwe has to go scientific if it is to improve its economy.

For true and genuine development to take place, the country has to go scientific and develop its own patents. Zimbabwe has to ensure mechanisation, automation, and utilise robotics and artificial intelligence in all industries if it is to catch up with the developed world and improve its economy.

Zimbabwe has to invest in talent and skilled people. We also have to improve international relations for the good of our economy.
