ZCA donates to COVID-9-hit John Tallach School
THE Zimbabwe Christian Alliance (ZCA) has come to the rescue of John Tallach High School, one of the worst COVID-19-hit schools in the country by donating personal protective equipment.
John Tallach last week recorded 122 COVID-19 cases among pupils and teachers, hence the need for emergency response mechanisms to assist the school.
ZCA director Useni Sibanda said the donation, which included sanitisers, toilet paper and surgical masks, was made possible by the church’s partnership with Foreign Common World and Development Office.
Sibanda said it was the duty of churches to respond to such emergencies and save lives.
“We believe that diseases can cause discomfort to the community, hence as the church, we have been donating materials to quarantine centres and schools around the country,” Sibanda said.
“We realised that John Tallach was quite unique, it’s not a quarantine centre, but because of what has happened, we have people quarantined here and we have decided to do an emergency response operation,” he said.
Sibanda said they would engage parents through WhatsApp groups and provide counselling to those with children who have been affected.
“We understand that this is a very difficult time for the parents and children, but we keep praying to God for their protection. The teachers, who are here, are now frontline workers and we really appreciate the care they are giving to students,” he said.
Vice-President and Health minister Constantino Chiwenga recently expressed concern over the spike in COVID-19 cases at schools.
The country has now recorded 9 220 COVID-19 cases, a sharp rise as the country gears for a new wave of the coronavirus which is said to be more deadly.
