Ben Curran set to play in Logan Cup

WHILE Tom Curran and Sam Curran continue to shine at the highest stage of the game, their brother Ben Curran ( pictured) is all set to start a new journey in his cricketing career.

Tom and Sam made their careers by playing in England’s domestic circuit before going on to play for the national team. Ben, on the other hand, has decided to take a different route.

Ben is gearing up to ply his trade in Zimbabwe’s first-class competition.

A left-handed batsman, the 24-yearold will be plying his trade for Southern Rocks this summer.

Ben might be starting a new journey in cricket but he is not new to Zimbabwe, the country where he and his brothers were born and the country his father – Kevin – represented as an international cricketer.

Kevin Curran featured in 11 one-day internationals (ODIs) for Zimbabwe from 1983 to 1987 and later went on to coach the side. He died of a heart attack in 2012. Their grandfather was a cricketer too who played for Rhodesia.

The Currans had moved out of Zimbabwe in 2004 and the three brothers got a chance to make a name for themselves in England. Well, one can say they have not done badly so far.

While Tom and Sam have taken a completely different route, Ben Curran has an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of his father.

Just like his father Kevin, Ben has also plied his trade for Northamptonshire.

Kevin had a successful spell with Northamptonshire between 1991 and 1999. Ben, on the other hand, started his journey with the club’s 2nd XI before signing up with the senior side in 2018.

Talking about his first-class career, Ben has played 17 games so far and has scored 857 runs at an average of 31.74.

He is yet to score a century in first-class cricket but has six fifties to his name. Two of those fifties came this year after the action started in England amid the pandemic.

Ben will be hoping that his fortunes finally change and just like his father and brothers, he too goes on to play international cricket.
