Zim Cricket communications dept a disgrace
ZIMBABWE Cricket (ZC) has been a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) since 1992 and is the only full member without a fully functional website. Even small cricketing nations have websites. On March 17 2021, ZC team will be playing their first match of the three games of the T20 games against Afghanistan. What is shocking is Zimbabwe Cricket Union does not have a fully functional website and functioning emails, to confirm this visit www.zimbabwecricket.org
There is definitely something wrong with the ZC communications department and the ZC leadership. Zimbabwe has always previously had a fully functional website in the late 1990s during the days of John Ward, when Zimbabwe was not well connected as now.
Worldwide Ward is a name which is not unfamiliar to true Zimbabwean fans. He was the window to the ZC when information on Zimbabwe matches was scarce to find. He was prompt in replying whenever any fan has any question on ZC and his Zimbabwe Cricket Online (ZCO) on Cricinfo was the most eagerly-awaited newsletter for all Zimbabwean fans.
The web has become a fundamental part of our lives and people are using it for virtually everything these days, from research to socialising to entertainment.
Zimbabwe's access to smartphones and wireless technology has led to a greater number of sports enthusiasts now using the internet to search for equipment, teams, statistics and other sports-related information. Not only does having a ZC website give your sports team or organisation credibility. If Zimbabwe Cricket is managed well, it will achieve a high rank in the search engine and will generate good exposure for your organisation.
Worldwide, a sports website is a brochure as well as an interaction platform. The difference is that it is available online to anyone who has an internet connection and who wants to visit it at any time of the day.
There is no need to print or distribute anything and not only does it save ZC money, it makes it easy to update the website with new information, such as upcoming events, team statistics or any products you decide to promote. Because it is so easy to access, you can better interact with all the stakeholders in ZC and the cricketing community.
In this digital age, there are only beneficial reasons as to why ZC should have a website. Let's get the basics right.
