Solskjaer confirms Lingard’s future
LONDON — Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that the club has made a final decision on Jesse Lingard’s future at Old Trafford.
The England international was back in a Red Devils shirt on Sunday afternoon following his impressive loan spell at West Ham United in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.
Lingard bagged nine goals in 16 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, helping them secure a sixth-place finish, but it seems the attacker will be back at United this term.
The 28-year-old was a secondhalf substitute in the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory over Derby County in their pre-season opener at Pride Park on Sunday.
Despite being linked with a return to the Hammers, Solskjaer revealed after that friendly that the midfielder is still in his plans for the new campaign.
“He was one of the positives. He's a Manchester United player and he wants to fight for his place,” the Norwegian tactician said, per Sky Sports.
“He is come back bright, confident and with lots of energy. I think everyone saw what he did at the end of last season.”
