Nyika-Chivhu Road in poor state

- Rovai Dumba

IHAVE been trying without success to use my vehicle all week to conduct my business which requires travelling from Nyika to Chivhu due to the dilapidated state of the highway.

There are several issues that are still unattended. What are relevant authorities doing to correct the situation?

Stories have been written and promises made that work on the highway would start soon, but one wonders when will the road be repaired. The highway is one of the busiest roads in the country.

While most of the accidents on the road are caused by negligence on the part of drivers, a high percentage is mainly due to the poor state of the road.

Driving along Nyika-Gutu-Chivhu Highway is a nightmare.

Almost on daily basis, I see at least two motorists changing tyres along that road.

I know a few friends whose vehicles are now parked or being repaired.

I understand that the road resurfacing project is underway and in time we will have much better roads, but for Christ’s sake, can some patch work be done until the roads are repaired?

There is no way one can escape the potholes anymore because they have literally taken over the roads.

You can swerve from one and land right into another, but that does not help. Potholes have and will always continue to cause traffic accidents, and frequent tyre damage.

Can government please put aside money for resurfacing. Work must begin now because driving along the highway is a nightmare these days.
