FACE of Kariba Trust, has donated an assortment of goods to Nyamhunga Clinic in Kariba as part of its efforts to give back to the community.

The trust’s goal is to promote Kariba as a tourist and investment destination through pageantry, arts and other events. In partnership with several organisations, on Saturday they gave free diabetes tests to Kariba and surrounding residents at the clinic in the resort town.

Trust projects co-ordinator, Ruvimbo Chabayanzara said the community welcomed the initiative, with 63 people coming for the screening.

“Face of Kariba aims to make a difference in the community that we operate in and we thank the community for working with us on different initiatives like this free diabetes testing which was a success regardless of all the circumstances faced,” she said.

“The screening process was extremely emotional and yet impactful as people were sharing their experiences and showed how grateful they were of the initiative. Above all, the people with extreme cases would need intense follow ups, until we are rest assured of their status quo.”

She said after the screening, people were advised to always take food that contains fibres, proteins, carbohydrates and fats as they were all recommended as part of a good diet and also do physical exercises.

Chabayanzara said every month they would be doing something for the Kariba community in partnerships with the corporate world.

“As we are working with many stakeholders in the corporate world, we are also inviting other interested parties to come on board. We thank all volunteers from Kariba and other areas who made this a huge success,” she said.

Kariba mayor George Masendu said: “I am in full support of such initiatives because they are of paramount importance to the community at large even if it’s one person who can be impacted, it’s still of value to us and Zimbabwe as a nation.”

“An initiative which involves health matters is always a difficult one and the diabetes free testing occasion was not an exception, especially when taking it into the community, consisting of people of different backgrounds,” he said.

The screening exercise was made possible by several partners, who include Zimbabwe Diabetes Association, Health and Child Care ministry, Caribbea Bay Resort, Northern Tours & Cruises, SpeedBlu Appliances, Safecan Holdings and Miskyra Travel, among others who contributed resources.
