Mental health, a dark cloud above suicide, drug abuse

- Youth Decide Zimbabwe

YOUTH Decide Zimbabwe joins all progressive institutions and nations across the globe in commemorating the Mental Health Day.

Mental health refers to the state of well-being in which an individual realises his or her own abilities. It is a condition in which one can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.

Mental health also is subjective well-being, perceived self-efficacy, autonomy, competence, intergenerational dependence, and self-actualisation of one’s intellectual and emotional potential, among others.

It is obvious that in every person’s life either young or old, and in this case youths, stress will strike. It is in overcoming stress that one can prove that their mental health is sound.

Some early signs related mental health problems are sleep irritation, lack of energy and being suicidal. Mental health illness is one of those problems, which, if not taken care of, can lead to death.

It is with both joy and heaviness of heart that Youth Decide Zimbabwe commemorates Mental Health Day.

The graveyard is known to be the richest place on earth, not because people hide money there or any other reason, but because it is where ideas and unfulfilled purposes lie.

As we commemorate the Mental Health Day, Youth Decide Zimbabwe would like to pass this message to youths.

If ever you are caught in a situation of mental illness, it is advisable to get a professional who nurses you thoroughly. It is also crucial that each and every youth out there be his brother’s keeper. Some mental health problems are due to poor social lives and can only be cured by creating spaces in which people feel that they are not alone.
