Trail-blazing Sharpe wins ... again

- BY OWN CORRESPONDENT

PROMINENT property mogul Kenneth Sharpe has once again scooped another accolade at the Megafest Leadership Awards ceremony, where he was honoured for his exemplary leadership in real estate for the year 2021.

Sharpe said the award was testimony that the team at West Property (WestPro) has been recognised for their efforts to build the country under their trending hashtag line #onebrickatatime and literally brick-by-brick.

The property developer, who is the chief executive for WestProp, is no stranger to awards and this year made history for the country after being recognised at the prestigious Forbes awards.

He became the first Zimbabwean to win in the Forbes best of Africa awards.

“The difference of this award and for example the Forbes one is that it is our local peers this time who are recognising and honouring me which is even greater and more personal for me because I firmly believe that the more we can celebrate in the success of others and the progress being made in our country, the more we as a society are likely to succeed,” an excited Sharpe said.

Speaking on the real estate industry, Sharpe said the COVID-19 pandemic had presented opportunities for more property sales.

“The pandemic has caused the sale of homes to increase because people have realised more than ever how important it is to own a home,” he said.

Sharpe, however, said there were some challenges like the disruption of global supply chains on materials which was still a matter of concern.

“Also the escalating shipping costs. For example, a container from China used to cost $2 000 before the pandemic and now it can cost up to $20 000,” he said.

This has not, however, daunted WestProp’s future prospects which include launching of modern sophisticated buildings.

“We are excited to launch the most modern-looking buildings yet in our portfolio which is the third block of 100 flats at Millennium Heights and have started selling them this week as well as phase two in Pokugara clusters where we have launched three new designs based on customer survey feedback. Stay tuned to this space because we have many other exciting projects in the pipeline,” he said.

Parting shot

“Some people think that success brings a bigger ego and overconfidence. However, in my case, it has actually humbled me to know that God is in control and he is greater than the sum of all things,” Sharpe said, adding that he loved Sundays because it is the day of rest and worship for his family.

Away from the madding crowd and hectic schedules, Sharpe enjoys doing adventure sports like kite surfing, scuba diving and mountain climbing.
